Dawson Winters, Joey Bertrand, and David Bertrand all wrestled in Little Kids State Tournament in March 2013, while Catherine Grace Bertrand wrestled in the Girls State Tournament. None of our boys placed, but both Dawson and David won two matches and Joey won one match. Catherine Grace went 1-1 and took 2nd in State.
Eleven wrestlers attended Lovett’s beginners tournament winning a total of six matches. Congratulations to Sloan Finger (3rd), Catherine Grace Bertrand (3rd), Owen O’Neil (4th), Daba Fofana (1st), and Jason Hughes (3rd) for winning at least one match.
Eight wrestlers attended the Johns Creek beginner’s tournament. In total, Nava/Breffle wrestlers won five matches. Congratulations to Daba Fofana for winning two matches and placing 1st. Catherine Grace Bertrand, Sloan Finger, and Gunner Ruddell each won a match with Sloan placing 2nd and Catherine Grace placing 3rd.
It has been a busy January for wrestling and we want to thank two programs for hosting us. The Lovett School hosted Nava/Breffle and St. Pius X on January 8th and we were able to get most of our wrestlers a couple of matches. Additionally, St. Pius hosted Nava/Breffle and Lakeside Viking Youth on January 15th and each of our wrestles got two matches in. All-in-all, our kids were paired up very fairly based on grade, weight, and experience and they competed well.
Nava/Breffle entered 10 wrestlers in this December 16th tournament and wrestled a total of 28 matches. Although, our wrestlers only won 12 matches, there were significantly more wins in the latter half of the tournament. Most of our wrestlers had not wrestled in any tournament before and it took a little while to get used to the crowds and competition. Congratulations to Thomas Harrison for taking 1st; Jason Sherman, Zani Patasin, and Daba Fofana for taking 2nd; and Jack Bracey for taking 3rd. Also, we are proud of Jonathan Kramer who had to wrestled the same kid three times and won the last bout after dropping the first two bouts.
Dunwoody High School invited the Nava/Breffle Wrestling Club to host an exhibition on November 25th during their lunch-time intermission. Nava/Breffle invited five youth clubs and middle school programs to pair up for the exhibition: Mount Vernon Presbyterian School’s middle school program, St. Pius X middle school feeder club, Alpharetta Junior Raiders, Lakeside Viking youth club, and Lovett. In all, 65 wrestlers were paired up into 66 bouts. The exhibition was a huge success and was enjoyed by participating wrestlers, fans, and high school wrestlers watching before resuming their matches.
